6-Week Pottery Hand-Building Course
Coming up in the New Year!
The perfect Christmas gift for creative souls
Starts January 2026 · £250 per person
Taught by Ruby Katz Ceramics at Taff Meadows Community Centre
Course Overview
Give the gift of creativity this Christmas — or treat yourself to six peaceful evenings of clay, connection, and creativity in the new year.
This 6-week hand-building pottery course is designed for beginners and improvers alike. You’ll explore a range of traditional and contemporary clay-building techniques — including pinching, coiling, slab-building, and surface decoration — to create a collection of beautiful, functional pieces that are truly your own.
Each week focuses on a different skill, building confidence and imagination as you go. By the end of the course, you’ll have several finished, glazed, and fired pieces to take home — from mugs and bowls to lanterns or sculptural work — and the satisfaction of having made them by hand.
What You’ll Learn
Week 1: Introduction to clay & hand-building fundamentals
Week 2: Pinch pots & form-making
Week 3: Coiling techniques for mugs or vases
Week 4: Slab building — building boxes, platters, or lanterns
Week 5: Surface decoration — carving, stamping & underglaze design
Week 6: Finishing, glazing & preparation for firing
What’s Included
Use of all tools, clay, glazes & firing
Small group tuition with one-to-one guidance
Tea, coffee & a welcoming creative space each week
A relaxing, mindful environment — ideal for beginners
